DFL releases exact schedule for the first two matchdays of Bundesliga 2
30 June 2021 – Following last week’s announcement that the opening game will see FC Schalke 04 take on Hamburger SV (Friday, 23 July, 8:30 p.m. CEST), today DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga is publishing the exact schedule for the first two matchdays of Bundesliga 2 for the 2021-22 season.
On Saturday, 24 July (8:30 p.m. CEST), SV Werder Bremen will host Hannover 96, while the team from Bremen will visit Fortuna Düsseldorf the following weekend (Saturday, 31 July, 8:30 p.m. CEST). In addition, Matchday 1 will see FC St. Pauli and Holstein Kiel going head to head in a northern derby on Sunday, 25 July (1:30 p.m. CEST). Other details confirmed include the kick-off times for the first match of newly promoted F.C. Hansa Rostock against Karlsruher SC (Saturday, 24 July, 1:30 p.m. CEST) as well as the meeting between SG Dynamo Dresden, who are also returning to the division, and Hamburger SV on Matchday 2 (Sunday, 1 August, 1:30 p.m. CEST). The match between Holstein Kiel and FC Schalke 04 will also take place at the same time on 1 August.
On Matchday 1 of Bundesliga 2, only one match will take place on the Friday (rather than the usual two). Instead, five (rather than four) matches will be played at the same time on the Saturday.
Further fixtures for Bundesliga 2 as well as the exact schedule for the first matches in the Bundesliga are expected to be determined next week (5–9 July).
