Start of the 59th Bundesliga season

11 August 2021 – The 59th Bundesliga season will begin on Friday evening (8:30 p.m. CEST) with an encounter between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bundesliga Champion FC Bayern München.

Before the match, singer and songwriter Michael Schulte will sing the German national anthem. The 31-year-old first came to public attention with his covers of current songs on YouTube and has been both a contestant and a coach on the talent show “The Voice of Germany”. Singers to precede Michael Schulte (current single: “Stay”) by singing the German national anthem before the Bundesliga opener include Sasha (2020), Nico Santos (2019), Max Mutzke (2018), Namika (2017) and Tim Bendzko (2016).

The logos of all 18 Bundesliga clubs will be visible on the pitch of BORUSSIA-PARK just before the opening match of the season kicks off.
