No transfers in the short term

15 March 2022 – The DFL Executive Committee and the “Football Commission”, which is made up of representatives from nine clubs, have adressed the possibility of signing foreign players from clubs in Ukraine or Russia with immediate effect outside of the set transfer windows (1 to 31 January and 1 July to 31 August) and fielding them in the current 2021-22 season. FIFA has granted this opportunity in light of the war in Ukraine: it has decided that contracts of foreign players with Ukrainian clubs are automatically suspended until 30 June 2022 and that players at Russian clubs can unilaterally suspend their contracts until 30 June 2022.

The DFL Executive Committee and the “Football Commission” have come out in favour of not exercising this option with the remaining eight matchdays in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 in mind. This is because of the possible impact of player transfers at short notice on the sporting integrity of ongoing competition at this point in the season.

However, the DFL expressly encourages solidarity, including in this respect, through the offer of training opportunities for affected players, for example. The “Football Commission” has already discussed these individual options for the clubs too.
