All remaining Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 fixtures for 2022 set
9 September 2022 – Today, DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga released the exact schedule for further Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 fixtures for the remainder of the calendar year. Fixtures have now been scheduled up to Matchday 16 in the Bundesliga and Matchday 17 in Bundesliga 2. The schedule that has now been set had to take into account factors including the group phase of the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League – of which there are eight German teams competing – as well as the outcomes of the draw for the second round of the DFB-Pokal, which took place on Sunday.
Matchday 10 in the Bundesliga will see head-to-head clashes between the teams currently occupying the top four places in the table: 1. FC Union Berlin will host Borussia Dortmund (Sunday, 16 October, 5:30 p.m. CEST), before current table-topper Sport-Club Freiburg visits FC Bayern München two hours later. Mid-week fixtures are scheduled for Matchday 14, including the Rhine derby between 1. FC Köln and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Wednesday, 9 November, 6:30 p.m. CET). The opening match of the last Bundesliga matchday in 2022 will be the encounter between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund (Friday, 11 November, 8:30 p.m. CET).
In Bundesliga 2, the Hamburg derby between FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV has now been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CEST) on Friday, 14 October. Matches slated for the following day include the clash between Hannover 96 and DSC Arminia Bielefeld (Saturday, 15 October, 8:30 p.m. CEST). On Matchday 14, current leader SC Paderborn 07 will await the current second-placed team, Hamburger SV (Sunday, 30 October, 1:30 p.m. CET). Matchday 16 will see a round of mid-week fixtures played in Bundesliga 2 – including the East Westphalia derby between Paderborn and Bielefeld (Tuesday, 8 November, 6:30 p.m. CET). The matchday will be brought to a close with the encounter between 1. FC Magdeburg and SV Darmstadt 98 (Thursday, 10 November, 8:30 p.m. CET).
Matchday 17 will both wrap up the first half of the season and be the last matchday of 2022 in Bundesliga 2. The Saturday evening match will be contested by Eintracht Braunschweig and F.C. Hansa Rostock (12 November, 8:30 p.m. CET). The following day will see the final matches of the year take place, with 1. FC Nürnberg taking on SC Paderborn 07, DSC Arminia Bielefeld going up against 1. FC Magdeburg and SV Darmstadt 98 tackling SpVgg Greuther Fürth (all Sunday, 13 November, 1:30 p.m. CET).
Because the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be taking place from 20 November – 18 December, there will be a break in Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches of around two months. Following the World Cup and the subsequent winter break, Bundesliga matches will resume on Friday, 20 January 2023, with FC Bayern München visiting RB Leipzig (8:30 p.m. CET), while Bundesliga 2 will be kicking off again on 27 January 2023.
In contrast to the Bundesliga, it is currently not possible to schedule the fixtures for the first matchday in 2023 for the Bundesliga 2. The reason for this is that Bundesliga 2 will resume one week later than the Bundesliga and the third round of the DFB-Pokal will be held the following week. It is therefore necessary to wait for the draw for the third round of the DFB-Pokal before scheduling Matchday 18 in Bundesliga 2, as well as Matchdays 17 and 18 of the Bundesliga.
The next set of exact fixtures for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 is therefore expected in calendar week 43 (24-28 October), after the draw for the third round of the DFB-Pokal.
