International Media Visits highlight best of Bundesliga to journalists from across the globe
5 June 2023 – The eyes of the world have been watching the 2022-23 Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 seasons unfold, and the final matchdays proved to be just as dramatic as the games leading up to it. The DFL’s goal is to ensure fans around the globe can share in the twists and turns of the season. The DFL works closely with its clubs and broadcast partners to bring leading journalists from around the world to experience the Bundesliga’s renowned game-day atmosphere for themselves.
Throughout the season, the DFL has coordinated regular media visits, inviting media representatives from countries such as Japan and the US, or from across regions like South America and the Middle East and North Africa, to take part in bespoke trips that give them a 360-degree Bundesliga experience. In total, seven media visits took place, with journalists visiting several Bundesliga clubs.
Interviews with club representatives and Bundesliga Legends
From interview opportunities with league and club senior executives, coaches and players, to going behind-the-scenes at the clubs, a media visit is full immersion in German football culture. Bundesliga Legends, such as Lothar Matthäus and Claudio Pizarro, are often on hand to give their expert opinion on the latest goings on in the Bundesliga, and sometimes even lace up their boots to take on the media on the pitch. In addition, local stars from around the world – such as Yasuhiko Okudera, who joined the Japan media visit – can speak directly to their own experiences of Bundesliga football.
As well as the sporting side, media visits are also about embracing the wider cultural experience, and no trip is complete without sampling traditional food, music or architecture. Every Bundesliga club is unique, and each delegation gets the opportunity to learn more about the city and state of the club, its history, and the role football has played.
