4 July 2023 – Following last week’s announcement that the opening game will see Hamburger SV take on FC Schalke 04 (Friday, 28 July, 8:30 p.m. CEST), today the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga has published the exact schedule for the fixtures for the first two matchdays of the 2023-24 Bundesliga 2 season.

Two promoted clubs will play at home on the Matchday 1: VfL Osnabrück will play host to Karlsruher SC, while SV Wehen Wiesbaden will welcome 1. FC Magdeburg. Both matches will take place at 1:00 p.m. CEST on Saturday, 29 July. The third promoted team, SV Elversberg, will start the season at the same time with an away game against Hannover 96. Later that day, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hertha BSC will take centre stage (Saturday, 8:30 p.m. CEST). One week later, the classic match-up between FC Schalke 04 and 1. FC Kaiserslautern will take place on Saturday, 5 August (8:30 p.m. CEST). The fixtures on Sunday, 6 August (1:30 p.m. CEST), include an encounter between 1. FC Nürnberg and Hannover 96.

On the first matchday of Bundesliga 2, only one match will take place on Friday, 28 July (with the usual pattern of two matches resuming from Matchday 2). Instead, five (rather than four) matches will be played on Saturday, 29 July.

The next fixtures for the Bundesliga (Matchdays 1-8) and Bundesliga 2 (Matchdays 3-10) are expected to be announced in the coming week (10-14 July).
