Executive Committee of the DFL follows task force recommendation: Following the recent tightening of the concept, there will be no mandatory “quarantine training camp” for now – however, a resolution is possible at a later date
6 April 2021 – The Executive Committee of the DFL will not be holding mandatory “quarantine training camps” for the clubs in the Bundesliga or Bundesliga 2 for the time being but reserves the right to pass a resolution on this matter later in the current 2020-21 season. In provisionally refraining from the measure, the Executive Committee is following a recommendation by the “Sports Medicine/Special Match Operations Task Force”, headed by Prof. Dr. Tim Meyer. This approach is also in coordination with the “Football Commission”.
The Task Force does not believe that a “quarantine training camp” is currently essential from a medical perspective, particularly in view of the extensive regulations of the medical and hygiene-related concept, which were recently expanded further. Just last week, mandatory antigen rapid testing before all interaction of players, coaches and training staff was added to the concept. This is intended to step up protection against infection even more in the interest of all concerned, to further improve the early detection of infections and to provide extra safeguards for the staging of matches. The “Sports Medicine/Special Match Operations Task Force” will continue to monitor the situation relating to both the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2.
The Executive Committee of the DFL will review the decision on a possible “quarantine training camp” later in the season, taking into account the overall development of the pandemic situation in Germany and the impacts on professional football. A possible resolution would be drafted in further consultation with the “Sports Medicine/Special Match Operations Task Force” and the “Football Commission”, at least eight days before the start of the proposed “quarantine training camp”.
A resolution of the DFL Members Assembly on 7 December 2020 authorised the Executive Committee of the DFL to take the necessary and appropriate measures to maintain match operations in compliance with the current fixture list. Under this resolution, the Executive Committee is also authorised to arrange a “quarantine training camp” lasting five to fourteen days, after consultation with the “Football Commission”, which comprises representatives of ten clubs.
