All Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs submit their licensing documents for the 2025-26 season on time

17 March 2025 – All 36 clubs of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 have submitted their documentation for the licensing process in the coming 2025-26 season to the DFL on time. The deadline for the submission of documents was 3:30 p.m. CET this Monday.

For applicants from 3. Liga, who are seeking a Bundesliga 2 license, the deadline was on March 1. Thirteen 3. Liga clubs took this opportunity and submitted appropriate documentation.

In the interests of honest and fair competition, the next step for the DFL will be to review not only the financial criteria for determining the economic performance of the 49 clubs, but also sporting, legal, staffing and administrative criteria. Criteria relating to stadiums (infrastructure and media technology), sustainability and the Virtual Bundesliga are also relevant.

Clubs are expected to be informed of the preliminary decision on the granting of licences in the second half of April.

In examining various criteria, the DFL can impose conditions or obligations on applicants in accordance with its Licensing Regulations. A condition stipulates that certain requirements must be met by a set date before the new season begins so that – subject to all other criteria being satisfied – a licence can be issued for the coming season in the first place. An obligation defines the criteria that must be maintained throughout the relevant season once a licence has been issued.
