Christian Seifert on the UEFA Champions League semi-finals: “Very gratifying for the Bundesliga”
17 August 2020 – With RB Leipzig (after a 2:1 victory over Atletico Madrid) and FC Bayern München (after an 8:2 victory over FC Barcelona) two German clubs have made it to the semi-finals of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League to be played this week.
Ahead of the matches between Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday and between Bayern München and Olympique Lyon on Wednesday, Christian Seifert, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the DFL and DFL CEO, says:
“The next few days will see the end of an extraordinary season, also at international level. Starting to play again and immediately having to put in top performances after a more or less long break certainly was and is a special situation for all the clubs still participating. In this context, it is very gratifying for the Bundesliga that, for the first time in seven years, two German teams have made it to the Champions League semi-finals – especially as the journey there brought them up against a series of top international clubs. I am personally looking forward to two evenings of exciting football – and in the best-case scenario a final between FC Bayern München and RB Leipzig.”
