DFL and DFB support launch of “Corona-Warn-App” in Germany
17 June 2020 – DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga together with the clubs of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 and the German Football Association (DFB) with its 21 state and five regional associations, are supporting the German government launch the new “Corona-Warn-App”. The new app became available for voluntary use yesterday, Tuesday, and is intended to help trace and interrupt chains of coronavirus infection quickly.
The DFL and DFB will draw attention to the app and the accompanying information that is available. For example, on matchdays 33 and 34 of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, the competition logos on the sleeves of all 36 professional clubs’ shirts will be replaced by the app’s logo. The same goes for the referees’ substitution boards. The app’s logo will also be displayed on the referees’ breast pockets and on the corner flags on both matchdays. Advertising opportunities will also be provided during the DFB-Pokal finals on 4 July and the upcoming international matches.
For additional reach, the DFL and DFB, as well as the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs, will back the campaign on their communication platforms. The DFB has asked its network partners to support the campaign, including the clubs of 3. Liga and the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga. The DFB, together with its state and regional associations, is also providing the approximately 25,000 football clubs in Germany with digital content in connection with the campaign.
Christian Seifert, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the DFL, says: “In the context of the coronavirus pandemic, our society continues to face major challenges. The Corona-Warn-App is a significant step by the German government on the long road back to normality. We therefore wish to use the reach of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 to call attention to this service all over Germany.”
DFB President Fritz Keller says: “We have won important victories in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to the efforts by society at large and the very responsible crisis management by the German government, it is now possible to significantly ease the restrictions that our lives together have been facing. But there is still a long way to go. We want to keep contributing to contain the pandemic using football’s large, nationwide network. The diverse measures now also include the use of the Corona-Warn-App. All users are joining the largest and most important team in Germany right now: our team against coronavirus.”
