17 December 2021 – Today (Friday), DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga announced the exact schedule for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches through to Matchday 27 of the 2021-22 season. The fixtures have been determined on the basis of the draw for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 and the knockout round play-off of the UEFA Europa League.

In the Bundesliga, Matchday 23 will include an encounter between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach (5:30 p.m. CET on Sunday, 20 February). Matchday 25 will see current league leaders FC Bayern München face third-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen (3:30 p.m. CET on Saturday, 5 March).

A somewhat unusual occurrence will take place on Matchday 26, which immediately follows the first legs in the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League. Because there are currently four German clubs still playing in the UEFA Europa League and they therefore could be otherwise occupied the previous Thursday, four matches have been scheduled for Sunday, 13 March, to allow for recovery time. Kick-off for two of these four matches will take place simultaneously at 5:30 p.m. CET – those between Borussia Dortmund and DSC Arminia Bielefeld and between Eintracht Frankfurt and VfL Bochum 1848. Owing to the additional play on Sunday, there will be no matches on the Friday evening of that weekend.

On Matchday 27, following the return legs in the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League, there will be a head-to-head clash between UEFA Europa League contenders RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt (3:30 p.m. CET on Sunday, 20 March). As a result of this, only three matches will be required on the Sunday, rather than four.

In Bundesliga 2, current leader FC St. Pauli will visit the side now in fifth place, SSV Jahn Regensburg (8:30 p.m. CET on Saturday, 12 February) on Matchday 22. Matches scheduled for the next day include the encounter between Fortuna Düsseldorf and FC Schalke 04 (1:30 p.m. CET on Sunday, 13 February). Matchday 24 will see the northern derby between Hamburger SV and SV Werder Bremen (1:30 p.m. CET on Sunday, 27 February), before SV Werder host SV Darmstadt 98, currently second in the league, on Matchday 27 (8:30 p.m. on Saturday, 19 March).

The next exact fixtures for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 are expected in calendar week 9 between 28 February and 4 March.
