Global interest in Supercup 2019
01 August 2019 – Supercup 2019 between Bundesliga champions FC Bayern München and runners-up Borussia Dortmund on Saturday (8:30 p.m. CEST) is meeting with great interest around the world. The match in Dortmund’s SIGNAL IDUNA PARK will be broadcast in more than 200 of the 211 FIFA member countries. FOX Sports (South America), Sky Perfect TV (Japan), Eleven Sports Poland, Eleven Sports Belgium, beIN France and beIN MENA (Middle East and North Africa), among others, will also be in attendance with their own teams to report from the sold-out stadium: There are no tickets left for the prestigious match, which is also one of the first milestones of the new season.
Supercup 2019 is being staged with the theme “Elite sport unifies”. The DFL Foundation has been supporting athletes from other sports using this slogan for many years via German Sports Aid. For example, the three-time Olympic skiing champion Maria Höfl-Riesch, who was once the recipient of Sports Aid support and is now a trustee of the DFL Foundation, will present the Supercup trophy in the stadium on Saturday evening – accompanied by legends from the two clubs who won the World Cup together in 1990: for Borussia Dortmund, the UEFA Champions League winner Karl-Heinz Riedle, and for FC Bayern München, Lothar Matthäus, the most capped German player of all time. The Supercup trophy will be handed to the winning team by DFL President Dr Reinhard Rauball and DFL CEO Christian Seifert.
