Philip Sagioglou to leave DFL at the end of the season
13 February 2023 – Philip Sagioglou will leave DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga, organizing body of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, at the end of the current Bundesliga season at his own request. The 33-year-old has worked for the DFL for over six years and, in that time, has risen to become Senior Vice President of Communications. In this role, he is responsible for the DFL Group’s entire internal and external corporate communications activities.
DFL CEOs Axel Hellmann and Oliver Leki: ‘We would like to take this opportunity to thank Philip for his outstanding work and tireless commitment to the interests of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2. We have only been working together directly for a short time, but his qualities have long been noted throughout the industry. Especially in view of our fantastic working relationship, we regret his decision, which he had already made some time before we took office as CEOs and which was, unfortunately, final. At the same time, we respect his desire to devote himself to a new professional endeavour.’
While working as a journalist (including for newspapers ‘Welt am Sonntag’ and ‘Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger’, and magazine-style TV programme ‘ARD Sportschau’) for many years, professional publication ‘medium magazin’ named Sagioglou as one of the ‘Top 30 under 30’ among German journalists in 2015.
In 2017, Sagioglou joined the DFL. In a variety of roles, he has shaped the steady advancement of corporate communications over the last six years. In that time, Sagioglou has also been part of the core DFL team that managed its response to the coronavirus crisis, and has been closely involved in strategic projects and processes at the company. Alongside his responsibility for PR and media relations, Sagioglou has driven forward progress in other important areas, such as the digitalisation of communications, by systematically setting up and expanding digital platforms and channels, and boosting their reach markedly in the process.
