16 August 2021 – Supercup 2021 as a platform for Paralympic sportThe DFL Foundation and the German Sports Aid Foundation (Deutsche Sporthilfe) are raising awareness of Paralympic sport once more as part of the events surrounding the Supercup. This will include three Paralympic athletes showcasing the Bundesliga Meisterschale, the Supercup trophy and the DFB-Pokal inside the stadium before kick-off at the match between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern München on 17 August (8:30 p.m. CEST) for the first time: triple Paralympic champion Markus Rehm (Paralympic track and field athletics), Anna-Maria Rieder (Paralympic alpine skiing) and Yannik Rüddenklau (Paralympic table tennis). The DFL Foundation and the German Sports Aid Foundation thereby wish to call attention to the participation of numerous German athletes in the Paralympics in Tokyo (24 August to 5 September).

The DFL Foundation has been committed to Paralympic talents together with the German Sports Aid Foundation since 2016. Besides the financial support as part of Youth Elite funding, which has already helped more than 850 Olympic and Paralympic athletes including Anna-Maria Rieder and Yannik Rüddenklau, the foundations frequently bring Paralympic talent to the public’s attention. One current example is the DFL’s “#Unstoppable” adverts that were created in close collaboration with the DFL Foundation and the German Sports Aid Foundation. Yannik Rüddenklau also features in the adverts.

Through their joint campaigns, the DFL, the DFL Foundation and the German Sports Aid Foundation want to give athletes a voice and strengthen their function as role models – also so that even more children and young people emulate them, are active and live out the values of sport. As the federal government’s third participation report revealed, people with a disability in particular engage in too little sporting activity. That is why the National Paralympic Committee Germany (Deutsche Behindertensportverband) also wants to bring people around to Paralympic sport, through initiatives including the platform parasport.de, which presents Paralympic disciplines. For the Paralympics, the National Paralympic Committee Germany is supporting its team within the framework of its “Mein Weg” (My Way) campaign, which features athletes including DFL Foundation inclusion ambassador Markus Rehm.
