10 June 2022 – Entries can be submitted for the Award for Sustainability in Sports (“Award für Nachhaltigkeit im Sport”), which is being presented this year for the first time, from now until July 20. The award has been created by SPONSORs with support from DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga. It will be presented on September 20 at the sports business event SPOBIS in Düsseldorf.

The award recognises projects across all types of sport that make a particularly sustainable impact in four categories – “Athlete”, “Club & Association”, “Venue & Event” and “Company”. To be eligible, a project must have been implemented or launched in the DACH region no earlier than January 2021. Entries for the Award for Sustainability in Sport can be submitted online via the following website: sport-nachhaltigkeit.de.

Before the awards ceremony in Düsseldorf on September 20, three finalists per category will be announced on September 7. The finalists and the eventual winners will be chosen by an independent jury comprising representatives from the fields of sport, business, science and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The importance of sustainability for German professional football was recently demonstrated by the clubs of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 at the most recent DFL Members Assembly at the end of May, when they included binding sustainability guidelines in their licensing regulations.
