Professor Tim Meyer
- DFL Honorary Award recipient
Professor Tim Meyer, born in 1967 in Nienburg, Lower Saxony, has accompanied the German national team as team doctor at six World Cups and five European Championships. In addition to treating all non-orthopaedic problems, his tasks in this role include anti-doping management and performance diagnostics. The medical director of the Institute of Sports and Preventive Medicine also holds other roles, including chairing the medical committees of the German Football Association (DFB) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), and is an editor of specialist journals. He studied medicine and sports in Hanover and Göttingen.
For over two years, Tim Meyer headed up the “Sports Medicine / Special Match Operations Task Force” during the coronavirus pandemic. This body, which also relied on contributions from other experts and employees from the DFL and DFB, developed the medical and hygiene-related concept that served as the basis for the restart of match operations in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 in 2020. Since June 2022, Tim Meyer has also led the “Medicine in Professional Football” working group, which the DFL has set up as a permanent body.
Tim Meyer was named as an Honorary Award recipient by the DFL at the 2022 General Assembly.
